PEARL POWER
Pearl Power is a series of children’s books I created to inspire young readers with stories of resilience, kindness, and equality. Pearl is a strong-willed girl who challenges gender stereotypes and stands up for what’s right, proving that determination and fairness are powerful traits. Through rhyming text and engaging illustrations, the books introduce themes of empowerment, inclusivity, and standing up against injustice in a way that’s accessible and fun for kids. My goal with Pearl Power is to encourage children—regardless of gender—to be confident, courageous, and compassionate in the face of adversity.
I have begun work to create a children's animated TV show in which Pearl meets influential and inspiring women from history, as I believe schools tend to focus on men in history lessons and that girls are left without enough strong female role models and stories of empowerment.
Pearl Power is my first children's book, written for and named after my own daughter. It follows the story of Pearl, a young girl who moves to a new town with her mum. When she starts at a new school, she quickly notices that some people underestimate her because she is a girl. However, Pearl is determined to show that she is just as strong, smart, and capable as anyone else. Through her confidence and kindness, she challenges gender stereotypes and inspires those around her. Pearl Power encourages young readers to believe in themselves and stand up for equality.

Pearl Power and the Toy Problem is the second book in my series featuring Pearl Power. In this installment, Pearl and her best friend, Sebastian, confront the issue of gender stereotypes in children’s toys. They embark on a mission to demonstrate that toys are not inherently ‘girl’ or ‘boy’ oriented, advocating that girls can play with dinosaurs and boys can play with dolls. Through their efforts, Pearl and Sebastian aim to challenge and change traditional perceptions about gender-specific toys. And guess what! They succeed!
The Girl with Two Dads (published by Harper Collins) celebrates diversity in families. The story follows Pearl, who is excited when a new student, Matilda, joins her class. Pearl soon discovers that Matilda has two dads, which she finds fascinating. As they become friends, Pearl learns that Matilda’s family is just like any other—full of love, fun, and everyday adventures.
This book promotes inclusivity and teaches children that families come in all shapes and sizes. It’s a wonderful introduction to LGBTQ+ families and the idea that love makes a family, no matter its structure.
